Information for new students from Leeds Metropolitan University and Leeds College of Art living in Unipol Housing
What you should bring
You should bring items to make your room homely, things you need to study, in addition to bedding and cooking utensils, crockery and cutlery.
You will need:
- Bedding (sheets, duvets and pillows)
- Cooking utensils
- Pots and pans to cook with
- Cutlery - knives, forks and spoons
- Crockery - plates and bowls
- Towels
Some things you will only need one per flat, so do not buy them specially as you may end up with about 5. If you have them already, they may be worth bringing. When you arrive you can always shop with your housemates and each person buy one of the items (which will be useful for the following year).
- Kettle
- Toaster
- Microwave (provided at Royal Park & Garden House)
- Iron
So that you do not have to shop the moment you arrive, you may wish to bring:
- Tea
- Coffee
- Milk
- Toilet roll
- Breakfast cereal
- Basic foodstuffs (perhaps pasta, rice, oil, salt, pepper, sugar)

Parking
The City Centre developments of Alexander Court, Mill Street, and New York Street do not have on-site parking, so it is advisable not to bring your car to Leeds unless you have alternative parking arrangements off-site.
Carlton Hill has on-site parking for tenants at a cost of £220.00 and Royal Park Road has on-site parking at the cost of £140.00 for the term of the agreement . Permits are allocated on a first come first served basis after 1st September. You can reserve a permit by calling Unipol on 0113 2430169. Payment is due at the start of the tenancy.
Please be aware that parking around the Universities and Colleges is extremely limited. If you do bring your car to Leeds it is unlikely that you will be able to drive to University. The public transport system in Leeds is good, and most of our developments are walking distance or a bike ride away from the City Centre and the main Universities.
Please note - during the year, refunds for the cost of the permit are at Unipol's discretion
Special Needs
If you have special needs, you should talk to student or disability services within your University or College so that we can liaise with them regarding your parking requirements.
